Ecclesiastes 3:11

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, so that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.”

There are so many Biblical truths hidden in the Hebrew language. Each letter has a meaning and a symbol. Each letter also represents a number. Each word is either a root word or is derived from a root word. We can discover so much just from studying each individual word.

The word used in this passage for eternity can also be translated as world. It is the Hebrew word owlam עוֹלָם. Going a little further, it comes from the root word alam עָלַם which means to conceal or be hidden or secret.

Why is this important? Because we are gaining insight into the purpose of creation simply by studying one word. In the first chapter of the book of Romans we are told the invisible things of God are actually made visible in creation so that all mankind has a chance to know him.

So why does he hide himself? Why doesn't he just come out and reveal himself as he is to the whole world? Spoiler alert: I'm about to give the answer and then we will work our way back to this one truth each time we BEHOLD HIM. I believe the answer lies in what the eternal truth is that is hidden in our hearts. It boils down to one word "LOVE". Love so great our mortal minds could not comprehend its magnitude and our bodies of flesh cannot hold its massiveness. It is a self-sacrificing love. It is a love that says I will turn the other cheek, and give my outer wear and under wear. I will go the extra mile. It is a love that says I don't just love those who love me, I love those who hate me as well (Matthew 5:39-45). It is a love that says I lay down my life (John 10:15). It is a selfless love that the world has a hard time comprehending, yet longs for as evidenced by its love for superheros who selflessly save the day and love stories where one lover sacrifices for the good of the other. It's a love that has been slowly revealed since the beginning of time. This revelation of love that commenced in creation, continued in more depth with the Law (Torah) and the Prophets, and found its greatest revelation yet as Jesus died on the cross for all the world.

If there is but one message God has hidden in our hearts, and is trying to cautiously reveal to His creation, it is "I LOVE you."

I love this way of seeing the world and living day to day, while trying to decipher the hidden meanings of our lives on earth. This is also a great way to teach our children to see the analogies of the teachings of Jesus and the Bible through movies, songs, politics and everyday situations. It’s like finding the hidden Mickeys at Disney World!
